Constraining intermediate-mass black holes from the stellar disc of SgrA*

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Stars evolving around a supermassive black hole see their orbital orientations diffuse efficiently, process called “vector resonant relaxation”. In particular, stars within the same disc, i.e. neighbors in orientations, will slowly away from one another through this stochastic process. We use jointly (i) detailed kinetic predictions for efficiency of dilution and (ii) recent observation stellar disc SgrA*, at centre Milky-Way, to constrain SgrA*’s unobserved cluster. Notably, we investigate quantitatively impact population intermediate mass holes on survivability disc.

Mass Measurements of Stellar and Intermediate-Mass Black-Holes

We discuss the method, and potential systematic effects therein, used for measuring the mass of stellar-mass black holes in X-ray binaries. We restrict our discussion to the method that relies on the validity of Kepler’s laws; we refer to this method as the dynamical method. We briefly discuss the implications of the mass distribution of stellar-mass black holes and provide an outlook for futur...

A Comparison of Intermediate Mass Black Hole Candidate Ulxs and Stellar-mass Black Holes

Cool thermal emission components have recently been revealed in the X-ray spectra of a small number of ultraluminous X-ray (ULX) sources with LX ≥ 1040 erg/s in nearby galaxies. These components can be well fitted with accretion disk models, with temperatures approximately 5–10 times lower than disk temperatures measured in stellar-mass Galactic black holes when observed in their brightest stat...

Gravitational Radiation from Intermediate-Mass Black Holes

Recent X-ray observations of galaxies with ROSAT, ASCA, and Chandra have revealed numerous bright off-center point sources which, if isotropic emitters, are likely to be intermediate-mass black holes, with M ∼ 102−4 M⊙. The origin of these objects is under debate, but observations suggest that a significant number of them currently reside in young high-density stellar clusters. There is also gr...

Determining the spin of two stellar-mass black holes from disc reflection signatures

We present measurements of the dimensionless spin parameters and inner-disc inclination of two stellar-mass black holes. The spin parameter of SWIFT J1753.5−0127 and GRO J1655−40 is estimated by modelling the strong reflection signatures present in their XMM– Newton observations. Using a newly developed, self-consistent reflection model which includes the blackbody radiation of the disc as well...

The Mass Distribution of Stellar Black Holes

We examine the distribution of masses of black holes in transient low mass X-ray binary systems. A Bayesian analysis suggests that it is probable that six of the seven systems with measured mass functions have black hole masses clustered near seven solar masses. There appears to be a significant gap between the masses of these systems and those of the observed neutron stars. The remaining sourc...
